A pair of ordinary shorts under a dress has a side seam running down each leg and a folded hem at the bottom. Under linen or a fine jersey, both of those press a line through — the exact thing the shorts were meant to hide.
Add a cotton fabric on a thirty-five degree day and you've swapped a visible line for a warm one.
These are knitted as a single tube rather than cut from flat fabric and stitched up the sides. There's no side seam because there's no join.
The leg edge is cut, not hemmed. A hem is a double thickness of fabric — that's the ridge you can see through a fitted skirt. A raw-cut edge on a bonded knit lies flat instead.
The waistband is the same idea: a wide flat band rather than a rolled casing with elastic threaded through it.
Made for a hot day in a dress
Knitted in one piece with no side seams and a raw-cut leg edge. Nothing to press a line through linen or jersey, and nothing to dig in when seated.
A fine nylon knit that moves air and dries fast. Cotton holds warmth against the skin on a 35° day — this doesn't, which is the point of wearing it at all.
Flat waistband, no gripper elastic at the top, no lace edge. Sits under a fitted dress without announcing itself.
Put them on under the dress you'd actually wear them with. Stand in front of a mirror in daylight, then sit down and stand back up.
Look for lines, not for comfort. A side seam or a hemmed edge shows up as a horizontal ridge across the thigh once you sit, and it stays there. That's the thing worth checking, and it takes half a minute.
If anything prints through, send them back. The 60 nights covers shorts that have been worn and washed, and we pay the return postage.
Get this right the first time
These are cut to stretch, so weight predicts the fit far better than a dress size does. Australian dress sizing varies enough between labels that it is much less helpful here.

Before you buy
Cheaper to say it here than to process a return.
Not shapewear. There's no compression panel and no tummy control. They're a light layer, and they're designed to be forgettable rather than firm.
Not gym shorts. Ice silk is built for wear under clothing on a warm day. For sweat-heavy training, a proper technical short will do a better job.
Not opaque enough to wear alone. The knit is fine and light. They're an under-layer — that's the whole design brief.
No silicone grip strip on the leg. Some shorts have one. These don't — they hold by the stretch of the knit, which is why getting the size right matters more here than it would otherwise.
Questions
There are no side seams and no gripper elastic at the waist, which are the two things that usually print through. The leg edge is raw-cut rather than hemmed. Under a heavy jersey or linen they're not visible; under a very thin silk, any under-layer will show some edge — that's true of all of them.
Send them back within 60 nights and we'll cover return postage, worn and washed included. Size is the most common thing people get wrong on a first order, so we'd rather carry that cost than have a pair sit unused in a drawer.
These hold by the stretch of the knit — there's no silicone strip on the leg. In practice that means fit does the work: a pair that's the right size for you sits where you put it, and a pair that's too small will travel. That's the honest answer, and it's the main reason we'd rather you sized up than down. If a pair rides up on you, send it back and we'll cover the postage.
Cold machine wash in a delicates bag, then hang to dry. Don't tumble dry and don't iron. Heat is what kills the stretch in a fine nylon knit — washed cold and hung, they keep their shape for a long time; put through a hot dryer, they won't.
A fine nylon knit sold as “ice silk” — a light, fast-drying, high-stretch weave. It isn't silk and doesn't contain any. The name describes the hand-feel, not the fibre.
Because they're worn next to the skin, most people wear them daily in summer and need a rotation — one on, one in the wash, one in the drawer. That's why the three-pack is priced the way it is rather than as an upsell.
